Payment gateways have come a long way. But spend enough time in high-risk and subscription ecommerce and you notice something: many gateways still run on antiquated systems. They move the transaction from point A to point B, and everything else that decides whether you actually get paid is left for you to figure out.

So brands figure it out. They pay a third-party company for reporting and analytics. They go somewhere else for good 3DS, another place for card updating, and another for retries.

Sometimes they build their own tools in-house just to see what’s happening with their own transactions. Every piece is a separate vendor, a separate contract, and a separate dashboard.

Why do all that? A high-risk payment gateway should work out of the box.

It should understand the continuity needs of subscription businesses from day one. That’s why Solvpath built TrustIQ.

Key takeaways

  • Many gateways still run on antiquated systems, so brands stitch together separate vendors for reporting, 3DS, card updating, and retries.
  • TrustIQ is a modern payment gateway built for high-risk and subscription businesses, with routing, authentication, tokenization, retries, recovery, and analytics in one platform.
  • Its AI decision engine chooses the route, the 3DS approach, and the retry plan together, per transaction.
  • When a rebill hard-declines, a compliant SMS and email bring the customer back to update their card and reactivate in two clicks.
  • Priced per transaction like a traditional gateway, with no platform fees and no revenue share.

Built by ecommerce nerds who lived the problem

The team behind TrustIQ is a group of ecommerce and payments people who have been in this space for a long time. We’ve run subscription programs, worked inside high-risk verticals, and patched together the same stack of gateway, add-ons, and spreadsheets that so many brands still rely on.

We saw the problem up close: the gateway was the one piece of the stack that touched every dollar, and it was often the least intelligent part of it. So we took it on.

TrustIQ is a modern payment gateway built for high-risk and subscription businesses. It replaces traditional gateways and brings routing, authentication, tokenization, retries, recovery, and analytics into one platform.

“The gateway was the one piece of the stack that touched every dollar, and it was often the least intelligent part of it.”

Why the old way costs subscription brands

For a one-time-purchase store, a decline is a lost sale. For a continuity business, a decline can be a lost customer and every rebill that would have followed. When your gateway treats every transaction the same way and the smart parts live in separate tools, the gaps show up in three places:

  • Approvals: initial sales get declined when a different route or authentication approach might have gotten them through.
  • Rebills: recurring charges fail when cards change or issuers get cautious, and subscribers who never chose to leave quietly drop off.
  • Recovery: failed payments are retried on a fixed schedule or not at all, and customers who would happily update their card never get an easy way to do it.

On top of that, the data you need to fix those gaps is spread across vendors that don’t talk to each other or to your CRM. Here’s how TrustIQ answers each of those problems.

“For a continuity business, a decline can be a lost customer and every rebill that would have followed.”

The answer: a high-risk payment gateway that works out of the box

An AI-driven decision engine instead of static rules

Most gateways stop at simple BIN or acquirer routing. TrustIQ does that too, then goes further.

Its AI decision engine weighs the issuer, your MCC, approval rates by BIN, whether the transaction is an initial sale or a rebill, and whether a network token is available. It chooses the route, the 3DS approach, and the retry plan together.

Because BIN routing and intelligent 3DS routing are decided in one step, one choice never undercuts the other. Multi-processor orchestration, which lets you manage every processor and MID from one place, is coming soon.

Good 3DS, built in, and not all or nothing

You shouldn’t have to go somewhere else for good 3DS. TrustIQ decides per transaction whether to run 3DS at all, and if so, which type:

  • Data-only 3DS shares richer data with the issuer through the 3DS rails with no challenge screen, so there’s no added checkout friction. It’s a strong fit for trusted customers and rebills.
  • Full 3DS authenticates the cardholder when the risk profile calls for it, bringing liability shift on authenticated transactions and less fraud and chargeback exposure.

Customers only see friction when it’s likely to help.

Network tokens and a vault you own

Issuers prefer network tokens over raw card numbers. TrustIQ uses network tokens with automatic token lifecycle management, so cards stay current when customers get new ones and rebills keep working. Tokens are paired with customer vaulting that you own, with full data portability, so you aren’t locked into a processor.

Smart retries that read the decline

When a payment fails, TrustIQ reads the decline reason and decides whether, when, and how to try again: a different time, a different route, or a different 3DS approach. Soft declines and failed rebills get a real recovery plan instead of a fixed calendar, and pointless retries that can hurt your merchant standing are avoided. This works for subscription rebills, upsells, and one-time sales.

Real-time payment updater and hard-decline recovery

Some payments can’t be saved by retrying. When a rebill hard-declines, or when dunning and retries are exhausted, TrustIQ reaches out to the customer with a compliant SMS and email.

The message brings them back into their branded Solvpath portal with their subscription already on file, along with an offer you can present to win them back. The customer updates their card and reactivates in two clicks.

This is where payments and retention meet: the customer never meant to leave, and TrustIQ gives them an easy way back. (Offer options and how the payment updater applies to your account are worth confirming with the Solvpath team during your demo.)

Reporting and analytics, without the third-party bill

Instead of paying a separate company to tell you what happened, TrustIQ includes dashboards, reporting, and deep analytics that show what’s happening, where, and why. You can break down performance by BIN, MCC, acquirer, billing cycle, transaction type, campaign, and price point. Everything is tied back to your platform and CRM data, not just transaction data, so you can see how payment performance connects to the offers and funnels that drive your business.

Priced like a gateway, with no hidden extras

Modernizing your gateway shouldn’t mean a new pricing model. With TrustIQ you pay per transaction, the same way you would with a traditional gateway.

“You shouldn’t need a stack of extra vendors and homegrown tools to get what a gateway should provide.”

There are no platform fees and no revenue share. Routing, 3DS, tokenization, vaulting, retries, recovery, and analytics are all included with the gateway, with no extra charges for your own data.

Built for headless, high-risk, and subscription brands

TrustIQ is designed for brands on headless commerce stacks. It works with Sticky.io, Checkout Champ, VRIO, AdMoji, Next Commerce, and Phoenix CRM. Your checkout and CRM stay the same, and TrustIQ becomes the gateway behind them.

If you’re weighing a gateway change, start with a few questions:

  • How many vendors do you pay today for reporting, 3DS, card updating, and retries?
  • Does your gateway treat an initial sale differently from a rebill?
  • When a card hard-declines, does the customer get an easy path back?
  • Can you see payment performance by campaign and price point, not just by card?

TrustIQ also connects to the rest of Solvpath. Recovered customers return to the same branded portal that powers Solvpath Retention, so voluntary and involuntary churn are handled in one place. On the dispute side, Solvpath Resolve helps customers sort out unrecognized charges before they become chargebacks.

Stop stitching your gateway together

You shouldn’t need a stack of extra vendors and homegrown tools to get what a gateway should provide. TrustIQ is the modern, out-of-the-box gateway we always wanted, built by ecommerce people for the continuity needs of high-risk subscription brands.
